4 Tips to Prepare for Lap-Band Surgery

If you and your Albany, GA doctor have determined that Lap Band surgery is the right choice for you, there are a few things you’ll need to do to prepare for your weight loss surgery.

  1. Be mentally prepared. As with just about any surgery, you need to be prepared mentally for it. But this is even more important for weight loss surgery such as Lap Band surgery because you’ll have to make dietary and lifestyle changes following your operation. Approaching these upcoming changes in your life with a positive attitude is important to your weight loss success. For instance, instead of thinking endlessly about a piece of cake that you feel deprived of, think about the increased energy level that you will experience after you lose a bit of weight.
  2. Be prepared physically. Performing light exercising such as walking and stretching will improve your readiness to participate in light physical activity as soon as permitted after weight loss surgery. Your doctor will have guidelines on foods to eat post-surgery too. Try to incorporate some of these habits into your daily routine now. Even things like getting a new haircut can help prepare you for the new you!
  3. Prepare your wardrobe. After your Lap-Band operation you are going to begin to lose weight quickly, especially if you are following the exercise and dietary recommendations that your physician provides you. For this reason, it may be a good idea to dig out a few old outfits that you have not fit into for a while, or treat yourself to a pair of pants a size or two smaller than you are pre-surgery. By doing this you will be ready to get dressed in the morning and return to your regular work routine as the pounds shed.
  4. Prepare your friends and family. Food is often the center of gatherings of family and friends. However, this could be detrimental to success after weight loss surgery if you’re not careful. When possible, try to schedule gatherings around another activity, such as bowling, biking, or attending a concert, sporting or theater event.
