Wade: 10 years with Unrelenting Burning from Acid Reflux

“I feel a lot better. It is life changing.”

After being diagnosed with GERD, Wade didn’t like the prospect of spending years taking medications for a problem that wasn’t being corrected. He struggled with acid reflux for 10 years. Eating certain foods caused a burning sensation in his chest that would keep him from being able to sleep at night.
For about 10 years Wade took a combination of over-the-counter and prescription medications. When his reflux became severe he would turn to other remedies as well, like combining water and baking soda. He found that while prescription medications helped him, he didn’t like the side effects. He also didn’t feel comfortable taking medications indefinitely.
After talking with Dr. Bagnato, Wade found that his reflux was caused by a dysfunctional valve separating the stomach and esophagus, the lower esophageal sphincter. This is something that can be repaired in a minimally invasive out-patient procedure. Six months following his surgery, Wade has no trouble sleeping and is able to eat foods that he previously had to avoid.
