Melanie H: Lap Band Surgery

I began my journey in 2011- weighing in at 285 (my highest recorded weight), I knew that I needed help. I had tried every diet under the sun, but nothing would ever work long term. My heart longed to start a family with my husband, but I knew that starting a family at my weight was extremely dangerous. I had researched the lap band and found it to be the safest option in regards to bariatric surgery. The journey has not always been easy. I personally find that sweets (my weakness) goes down fairly easy, while chicken, eggs, and certain veggies do not. I plan my meals and still use the tools taught to me during my process of having lap band. After I lost 50lbs, I decided I needed to incorporate some exercise. I started the couch-to-5k program and fell in love with running/walking.

Since having lap band, I have had two beautiful babies- a 5 year old boy and a 15 month old little girl. They are my world! I have been able to continue to lose weight with the help of lap band and running/walking. To date, I have ran 2 marathons, 10 half marathons, and numerous 10k’s and 5k’s. I currently weigh 157lbs and am training for the Dopey Challenge at Walt Disney World.

When I first began my journey at 285, I never would have imagined my life where it is today. My lap band has helped me achieve my dreams and goals!
