Following bariatric surgery in Albany or Macon, exercise will need to become an integral part of your life. Many people commit to 30 minutes of exercise every day in an effort to boost their activity level, but 30 minutes isn’t enough to counteract 23.5 hours of sedentariness. To really improve your health you need to begin integrating activity into all aspects of your life.
Perhaps one of the easiest ways that you can increase your activity level is to add a bit of a workout into your workday. Regardless of where you work, you can increase the amount of activity you are fitting into your day by adding a few simple exercises to your lunch break.
Here is a guide to get started:
- Walking: The simplest of the workplace workout, this can be done inconspicuously at absolutely any time of day. The next time you need a ten-minute break get on your feet and walk a lap around the floor or parking lot.
- March in place: If you are looking for a simple activity you can do in the comfort of your office or cubicle then this is your answer. To start, stand up straight and start slowly marching one leg at a time. Exaggerate your motions by lifting your knees until they are at waist level before putting them back down.
- Arm circles: Warm up and stretch out your arms with this simple routine. Standing up at your desk or in a lounge, extend your arms fully at either side and slowly start moving them in a circular fashion. Switch from doing large circles to small circles and then back again.
- Punch in place: A great way to take out aggression, but make sure that you aren’t close enough to a wall or co-worker to get in trouble doing this activity. Exaggerate the motion by stepping with your alternate foot while punching. Put as much force as you can behind each punch to get the most out of the exercise.
It might seem embarrassing at first, but you may be surprised just how effective these short activities are at boosting your activity level. Quick exercises like the ones above can refresh your mind and even energize you during the long and slow afternoons at work.
