Randy: 13 years of Severe Nighttime Reflux

“I’d do it again in a minute, I really would… the results have been beyond what I expected.”

Randy struggled with GERD for more than 12 years. Regular heartburn and acid reflux would affect him at night, interrupting his sleep. He had to take medications daily and control what he ate just to prevent food from regurgitating back into his mouth. Randy had to take Prilosec every day to try to control his symptoms.
While struggling with heartburn, Randy would often wake up in the middle of the night after throwing up in his mouth. He would then have trouble sleeping due to severe heartburn and intestinal discomfort. In an effort to control his heartburn and get some sleep, Randy would wake up in the middle of the night to drink a mixture of water and baking soda. He dealt with this for years as he put off the idea of surgery.
Like many, Randy considered surgery to be dangerous and complicated. After meeting with Dr. Bagnato he discovered the cause of his reflux was a hiatal hernia and that his reflux could be corrected in a minimally invasive outpatient procedure. Within days Randy was moving about as normal, and within just a few weeks he was able to eat spicy foods that he had avoided for years.

Hello. I am only in the beginning stages of seeking medical treatment for my acid reflux. My chiropractor suspects I might have a hiatal hernia as my stomach was bulging upwards. He has adjusted it so I don’t have that bulge now, but says it’s still possible my acid reflux is from a hiatal hernia. I live in a small rural town area in north-east Indiana, maybe 45 miles east of South Bend, Indiana. Doctors around here only seem to treat acid reflux patients with pharmaceuticals and I’m concerned with my overall health. I wish I lived in Albany or Macon and could visit your clinic. Are there any doctors in the South Bend, Indiana area that you have trained. I am 68 years old and a female. My acid reflux is daily. I am taking Zantac at night, but a few night’s ago I didn’t take it and didn’t need it, I guess, because I had hardly eaten anything during the day.
