I was sick of being fat! The day I realized it was hard for me to tie my shoes I knew I had to do something. I had lost the weight several times with diet pills, working out at least 6 days a week and watching everything I ate. This was a miserable way of life. As soon as I would relax just a little bit, I would gain the weight back plus some.

I always considered myself to be an average size as a child growing up and never thought that I would become an overweight adult. That all changed after the birth of my first child. My weight began to fluctuate. I would gain weight, go on a diet to lose weight and end up gaining even more. It seemed too hard to stick with anything more than a couple of months.

For years I was overweight. My highest weight was 297 pounds! I had considered stomach bypass surgery, but knowing the risk involved, I just couldn’t feel comfortable with that procedure. Let me tell you what the lap band has meant to me. I was a mess. I felt completely out of control concerning my weight (and other things in life too) I knew that if I didn’t do something I would die an unnecessarily early death.

Kim talks to Dr. Bagnato about the changes that single incision LAP-BAND surgery and her 62 pound weight loss in the 8 months after her surgery have made. “Since I had the Lap Band when I eat sweets… it’s kind of turned off my sweet tooth. So now when I eat something sweet, I just don’t want that.
Reading story books to my girls and I don’t get out of breath. Playing with them. We play and run. They like to be my trainers, doing exercise. We exercise together.”
